I have heard so often from students, “Man! I wish I had learned more Spanish!” If you have participated in Mission Peru over these past 9 years, you more than likely felt this way, whether you voiced it or not. When we’re in the moment, and in Peru, we have this longing to communicate more effectively through words, and more often than not, we leave some of those experiences feeling frustrated. You might have even felt like you should have been a better messenger, but the words just simply wouldn’t come.

During our time in Peru, I learned what the true definition of joy is. Before this trip, I always knew that there was a difference between happiness and joy but I never truly thought about what it was. Some of the Peruvians that I met really put into perspective the difference between the two words.

My name is Tim Magwood and I am from West London Alliance Church. After our team visited the dump on Wednesday, I was having trouble gathering my thoughts into standard words and paragraphs. As I tried to write I decided that lyrics might be easier to work with rather than words because having to rhyme words would guide the specifics but I could still decide on the ideas I wanted to focus on. This is what resulted from it.
I missed this place. I missed the little hands which squeeze with all their strength. I missed the sweaty kisses that taste sweeter than any candy. I missed the local leaders and the boldness for Christ they carry in every circumstance.

Perspective is important. Sometimes from an outside perspective situations do not seem as real or as important. Coming into this week I knew that some things on this trip would be shocking and unexpected but I could never have imagined how much it would truly impact me.

It has been a bit of a struggle for me to find the Peace that surpasses all understanding, but here on the last day I feel that I have found it.

Although we did many great things on the mountain (singing, sand boarding, praying, etc.) one of the most significant parts for me was the climb.

Over the last several days many of us have been pushed to our limits, relaxed in the joy of community, and have come to better know the hope that is found in God.
These last few days have been impactful ones as we have been constantly pushed outside our comfort zones, creating long lasting friendships, humbly serving others and growing closer to God in the process.
