    Living Life to the Fullest

    March 15, 2016
by Maddy Postma, West London Alliance Church

Hola!! (That is one of the few Spanish words I’ve been using a lot these past few days.) :)

This trip has already been an amazing experience and we’re only a couple days in! From the morning that we left until now, God’s faithfulness has been so obvious in all of the details. In many ways it feels that this trip is initiating a journey, one that is just starting but will extend into the months and years ahead and will not leave me unchanged.

We’ve had the chance to visit a couple churches as well as Elim, the garbage dump ministry for children of families who work in the dump. Getting to come along side these ministries and see their commitment to do what God was calling them to was so encouraging. The whole Mission Peru team was able to lead a ministry time at Elim and we talked about the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead. The idea of being fully alive is so hard to grasp (in church, Jeff spoke about being awake for the Christian journey, so that we are more aware of what God is doing all around us).  I’ve been seeing glimpses of this theme through so many situations here in Peru. I’ll always remember the energy and joy on all the faces of the children we had the privilege of meeting at Elim, but I’ll never forget Sonia, a young girl who I immediately connected with. The love she showed me, someone she had never even met, reminded me of God’s unconditional, unfailing love. It is only in living with the knowledge of His love that we are fully alive. I’ve already been reminded this week of how this life in Christ affects the way we are able to give and receive love. And I know there will be many more moments to continue to learn this in the future.

From the beginning of this trip we’ve been praying that God would work despite the barriers and I’ve seen him work through my weakness in so many ways. From language barriers to my attitude to situations where I need wisdom, God has really given exactly what I need which is such an amazing reminder of his love for us. I hope to use this opportunity in Peru to come to a new understanding of how having life in Christ should affect my everyday life.

I am so blessed to be a part of this team and spend all this time with some amazing people. I can’t wait to see how God continues to work and teach us all new things!

Thanks for the prayers and support!

Hey Maddy! It is so amazing to see God working in you down in Peru. The children and people you meet are like none other and it gives us an example of God's amazing love and it is an answer to prayers that you get to see that first hand. Your trip has just gotten started and my prayers are with you as God changes you, every second of this trip! Love you! God Bless!

Thanks for sharing about your journey Maddy. God is so faithful and it is so evident in the love present in each of you and the Peruvian people as you come together I time of worship, working together and in times of play with the children. I continue to pray as He works His plan in each of you not only in the time spent there but also in the moments He purposely puts you in to help you grow in the knowledge of His immense love in the lives of the team and the Peruvian people

Thank you, Maddy, for your heart-felt post! It is just so great to feel a part of the trip by being kept up to date on all that you guys are doing and experiencing. It sounds like you have been refreshed in your knowledge of God's love for you by seeing the love that a perfect stranger (a small, precious child) is capable of having for you. That is so special because we always think mission trips are about what we can give, when often they teach and change us (you!) more than we could imagine. I think that is God's blessing to us for taking the step of faith to do His work. I am praying for the whole team! May God use you to bless these people, to teach you more about who He is, and who you are in relation to Him. May you all have the energy, passion and love to "live life to the fullest" for the sake of Christ!

With the love of the Lord Jesus Christ,

    Erie

It is so cool to see and hear how God is working and using this experience for his glory - to advance His kingdom through all of you. It's so amazing how much of an impact the children can have in your life. I never get tired of seeing the smiles on a child's face and how much joy that brings to others. These pictures have definitely portrayed that joy, which is so exciting to see. It is incredible that God can speak and remind you of His unconditional love through the joy and love of those kids, as Sonia did to you, Maddie.:) You are all in my prayers. I am so excited for all of you as you continue to serve God in Peru!:)

Thanks for sharing Maddy! So great to hear how you see God at work. My reading this morning was from Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is in your midst, A mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love; He will exult over you with loud singing." I pray that you may experience much gladness, love and singing throughout the week. Blessings! Lynda

" In many ways it feels that this trip is initiating a journey, one that is just starting but will extend into the months and years ahead and will not leave me unchanged." Maddy, what wise words these are. I am finding that, for some reason, this Peru team, more than any other since I was on the team six years ago, has really got me thinking about my own experiences in Peru, and the ways that has shaped me today. It really is the start of a journey which will not leave you unchanged. And because of this, I have been praying Micah 6:8 over you all: "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (ESV) May these experiences be the start of a journey in which you learn more fully what it means to do justice, to love kindness (or mercy, as the NIV says), and to walk humbly with your God.

Haha! You beautiful girl! I was just listening to the radio in the car and a song came on that I prayed for you and for the whole team. And then here you are writing about being fully alive! Praying the enthusiasm for a life fully-lived in this song in light of the GLORY of 1 Corinthians 10:31. Do it all, full out, to the glory of God -- in His strength! So proud of you for being willing to be very present. Keep going, all of you! You each have a proud extra 'mom' over here. (I hope the link to this video works, Ray! Hey Maddy! Thanks for sharing from your heart as you have ... that you see God's ever present help is very clearly an answer to the many prayers that I know your parents have prayed since the day you were born, because I've prayed those same prayers myself! May the Lord Jesus continue to reveal himself to you and the whole team as you serve with all your heart, mind, soul and strength! To Him who is alone able to do exceeding abundantly beyond ALL that we could think!!
