Hi my name is Kasia and this is a blog about our second day in PERU!!!
Today was unreal ad everyone has definitely experienced so much different culture and made new memories. We started off our day by an early morning, which lead to Jeff finding his missing luggage! God is great! Laura also joined us in the morning. We then headed off to the city of Lima to walk around and take in the many different sights and sounds. We took lots of pictures and then headed off to our surprise, which was to visit and go inside the Franciscan Monastery and museum, here we learned lots about Franciscan friary and the monastery. We saw a very unreal library. It looked like it was out of Harry Potter. We then headed off to what I definitely thought was the coolest part, the catacombs. This massive underground graveyard where they used to burry catholic people because they thought that if you burry the people under a church they will be closer to God. The catacombs were filled with 25 000 people, and we saw thousands of skulls and bones. It didn’t really set in that these used to be real people and that they were all buried here together. It was really hard to wrap your mind around it.
After visiting this rad museum we went for lunch for some very delicious Peruvian food. There was chicken and potatoes with sauce and beef and some salads and soup. Very very delicious! After wards we took the bus to Paplona, the poorest city in Lima. This is where I personally was just over come with emotions. Se we got to the church there and started singing some super cool Spanish Jesus songs and we then had the kids sing for us which is when it struck me and I’m sure us all. These kids who live in little tiny houses who have one meal a day and literally have close to nothing still had the joy in their hearts to sing and praise God. It was really moving and made me tear up. The hearts of all the volunteers was really amazing how passionate they were to serve the Lord.
It was a moving experience that will stay in my heart forever. We then had a tour of their town which we will all be praying for. The ground is really slippery during these months and lots of people fall and hurt themselves. It was heartbreaking to know that some people have to travel 200 meters downhill to collect water and then back up that hill to get home when all of us at home just have to turn on the tap and we have safe and clean water. We then played soccer with some of the local kids and one of the dogs and I got a chance to use the little Spanish I know to talk to this little girl called Ebony. Today was an amazing day filled with new experiences and moments. New friendships were made and God has been with us each and every step of the way. Can’t wait to see what God has in store for us tomorrow.
