Today was not my birthday, yet a chorus of 50 serenaded me.
It all started yesterday while we were doing construction, lifting 100 pound rocks and bricks and my body weight worth of dirt and sand in wheelbarrows. After around 18 hours of this non-stop, grueling, painful work, we were allowed a 30 second water break. It was during this time that my two fellow co-workers were discussing another person’s birthday (which was the day before). My friend and I then jokingly said that it was my birthday and from there it snowballed. Cake, balloons, a clown accompanied by a troop of dancing elephants and even Her Royal Highness, Her Majesty, The Queen of Peru dropped by. This all left me kinda red faced. Well... maybe a few of the points above are exaggerated, but all jokes aside, even though it wasn’t actually my birthday, the trip has been great so far. I’ve gotten to play sports and games with the locals, I’ve gotten to enjoy the wonderful cuisine that the cooks have prepared for us, and I’ve been excited to be able to help move the construction work along. The weather has also been great and I’ve been able to practice my machete wielding skills.
All in all, I can’t wait to see more progress in the campground, and I’m excited for the upcoming projects and activities that we’ll be doing in the next week. Keep praying for us and the work that Inca Link is doing in Peru.
Thanks for all of your support everyone!
