    Fake Birthday

    June 26, 2015

    By Davian Mickelson
    Bolton Alliance Church

Today was not my birthday, yet a chorus of 50 serenaded me.

It all started yesterday while we were doing construction, lifting 100 pound rocks and bricks and my body weight worth of dirt and sand in wheelbarrows. After around 18 hours of this non-stop, grueling, painful work, we were allowed a 30 second water break. It was during this time that my two fellow co-workers were discussing another person’s birthday (which was the day before). My friend and I then jokingly said that it was my birthday and from there it snowballed. Cake, balloons, a clown accompanied by a troop of dancing elephants and even Her Royal Highness, Her Majesty, The Queen of Peru dropped by. This all left me kinda red faced. Well... maybe a few of the points above are exaggerated, but all jokes aside, even though it wasn’t actually my birthday, the trip has been great so far. I’ve gotten to play sports and games with the locals, I’ve gotten to enjoy the wonderful cuisine that the cooks have prepared for us, and I’ve been excited to be able to help move the construction work along. The weather has also been great and I’ve been able to practice my machete wielding skills.

All in all, I can’t wait to see more progress in the campground, and I’m excited for the upcoming projects and activities that we’ll be doing in the next week. Keep praying for us and the work that Inca Link is doing in Peru.

Thanks for all of your support everyone!

So happy that you were able to fit in a birthday celebration, with the Queen of Peru, no less. It seems like only yesterday, we were at the packing party and now you are there. Can hardly wait to hear your stories, upon your return.

    God Bless!

Good job on cashing in on your fake birthday Davian! We laughed at the beginning of your blog and smiled with pride as we read the end (where you were a bit more serious). It's good to see you building muscle for your summer job too! Don,t forget the handshake with Chi Chi! We are proud of our BAC team - tell the rest of the team we can't to read their blogs and we are praying for all of you.

I couldn't stop wondering what the queen of Peru would look like and the dancing elephants. Your are so lucky! I love how you find the joy in every situation. Davian, thank you for blessing the people around you with your wonderful/humorous personally. Hope the lasagna made it through customs and don't forget to share your wipes. But most of all, we pray for lots of blessings for each and everyone of you. In our prayers daily.

Dear son, I hope you're "listening" and I can't wait to talk about what you have "heard". PS...if you get 27 minutes after daily debrief, it would make me proud to hear you shared the pizza story. Love dad.

Mister!!! I can't believe you're tricking people like that...but if it got you the chance to meet the Queen of Peru, I guess it's ok (I hope you took a selfie with her😉). I'm so happy to hear that you seem to be eating well (and I hope I started that trend with your pepperoni sticks and lasagna!) and making lots of memories with your old friends and new friends too. We're praying all the time for safety, health and that you will all keep your eyes, ears and hearts open for the work that God wants you to do. Make the most of every opportunity and we can't wait to hear about what God did through you AND in your heart. We love and miss you!!
