I am writing this on the last night that we are spending here at the orphanage in Trujillo before heading back to Lima tomorrow and then heading home. This truly has been an incredible week doing ministry alongside so many amazing faithful servants of God both the mission’s team and the nationals here in Peru. When we left Toronto a week ago we thought we were coming here to came here to bless others but after being here for a week it is clear that we were the ones who have been blessed, inspired and challenged in our commitments to Christ. I have been so proud of the hard work, dedications and commitment of our youth this past week watching them shovel, push a wheel barrow, paint, clear brush, play with the children at the day care center, make concrete and hand out fruit to people living and working in the garbage dump today. It was especially moving to see our youth praying for these people, the “least of these” as they laid hands on them and blessed them in the name of Jesus!
Jesus brought his words to my mind this morning from Matthew 25 where he says, “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?...Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
It was been so encouraging to see our youth living out these commands in the most beautiful ways here in Peru. Whether is was giving fruit out in the dump to “feed the hungry” or handing out clothing to the children to “cloth the naked”, or praying with the poor living in the dump to “invite in the stranger” they have been fulfilling these words while serving their King here in Peru!
Looking forward to returning home to see everyone, we have really felt your prayers and experienced the blessing of all your support. Can’t wait to have you see how God has been transforming us through this ministry. Our prayer is that our stories of serving God will also transform your lives too.
Keep serving the King,
Dan Martin.
