    Amanda's Blog (Part 2)

    July 1, 2013

After worship we split into the three classrooms from each church with four students since the classrooms are not as big as the ones we have in Canada. Each church was to have either a craft or game and a bible story to share. I was one of the students whom did not teach today but I think I will tomorrow or sometime soon, I went to walk around the garbage dump community with the others whom were not teaching.  We first saw a donkey in the garbage dump community where they live. So many swarming flies all around but it was not as a bad as I expected it to be. Although there is still time to go to the garbage dump where people collect garbage to earn a living to feed their families, as well there were car tires randomly lying on the ground, stray dogs viciously barking at us and chasing Melissa (our techie) and Connor, we also saw a dog that has died and it was just completely flat it was scary. I’ve never seen a dog like that to think the pain it went through getting crushed just breaks our hearts. During this walk around the garbage dump which we called prayer walk, we just prayed for the community for future generations, to keep them safe and so many other things we prayed about. This visit was just a reality check of how blessed we are and like when we were in Lima we were limited to clean water and this made me realize how precious water is there are other countries in the world people do not have clean drinking water just thinking about that breaks my heart. Something we have in our daily lives is very hard to get for other people in the world. There is a cemetery just a few blocks away from the garbage dump we haven’t gone there yet but it is so sad to be living in the garbage dump and having a cemetery and a high wired prison near it just makes us concern about the children’s safety. It broke our hearts and it is very heartbreaking but at the same time there is hope like I saw a cactus growing in the dump during our prayer walk and just seeing a little vegetation even though it is a plant for the desert it just gives hope that even if life is hard and everything is not going right that there is still light we just have to patiently wait for it. After our walk we went back to the classroom and some children played What time is it Mr. Wolf and others played soccer like me for a while. It was so cute just playing together all the students, children, leaders versus the interns and Jeff. After the fun time of playing games also, during devotion we got introduced to the 5 things to have during this trip and giving our 110% was one of them.

I met a little girl named Angie at the classroom in garbage dump and she had the brightest smile when I took photos and played with her. It reminded me of how we don’t always have to verbally share God’s love but through actions we can share God’s love.

“When your power ends, God’s power is only beginning. When you’re weak, that’s when He is strong in you.” Even if we feel ache from construction just got to keep working! See you soon!

Praying for Angie that you met in the classroom! You made a great point that expressing God's love can be done through actions and doesn't have to be verbal! Praying for you all.

Hey Team. Amanda I love the way you have given me such a vivid picture of the dump and your experiences. I think my heart would have been broken also if I witnessed all that you have. I had a lump in my throat just reading your blog. We are so blessed by God to have the entire team in Peru. You have so much to give them and they have so much to show you also. Our prayers are with all of you. Stay strong in Christ. Hugs to all and kisses for Jaqueline

Hello missionperu team. Thank you Amanda for the descriptive and vivid detail. I feel your love and pain and joy. Such a big mix of emotions and you are able to keep it all in perspective for yourself and for us. The team's goal is now a little closer to completion and God has a perfect plan in mind for the future of Trujillo and for all of you. Glad you are all safe and doing so well. God bless you all.
