    Amanda's Blog (Part 1)

    July 1, 2013

Hey mom, dad and Dorothy, hope your having fun and not missing me too much. Missing the Chinese food but the Peruvian chicken and all the meals we’ve had have been amazing! Their chicken is amazing we can’t compare it to the chicken in North America.

The time right now is 12:26 am. Yesterday (since it is Sunday now) was the second day for us in Trujillo.  Our day was quite eventful from the moment we woke up. Like everyday we had breakfast and we had devotions right after we sang 10,000 Reasons and it was one of those songs that stuck to me and reminded me of my worship team back home.

As well to just worship our God together and we read Romans 14 during devotions and Natalie shared about judging others, other Christians which was really relevant to us today going to the garbage dump and working with the children in the classrooms to not be judgmental and scared but to freely love them (don’t be judgmental but to care and love them) as Jesus has loved us first. Jesus didn’t care about if people were sick, blind, broken, hated he just loved them so dearly.

After we finished construction and had lunch we left the orphanage and we went to the garbage dump. It seemed quite surreal at first because it was really similar to the pictures we saw on the website but being there the experience is so much different smelling and seeing and touching. We played with the children once we got of the bus for around 10 minutes and in the 10 minutes I met a little girl named Angie. She’s like 3-5 years old maybe at most and she was shy at first but I piggybacked her, and took pictures with her and we instantly bonded. She had the most beautiful smile it was just so precious and we went into the classrooms and Angie grabbed my hand and invited me in she wanted me to be by her side and she just made my heart melt.

Everyone went into the classroom and the children sat in the front and we sat and stood at the back or on the sides of the rectangular shaped room. We worshipped together with the children doing the actions, not knowing much Spanish but tried our best to sing along to the lyrics and actions. It was just so amazing to see how God is working not just our team but the Peruvians helping other Peruvians the dedicated teachers to help these children and mothers to sew plastic bags together to make bags to sell. And Maddie one of Inca Link interns was holding this baby girl just 3-4 months years old and it was a precious moment. Additionally, the classroom is surrounded by garbage and shacks, but from this brokenness to have a classroom gives them and gives us hope that in the future they will expand the classrooms of the garbage dump and more children of maybe all ages can come to learn about God.

Thanks for your update Amanda! What you guys are doing...stepping out of your comfort zones; giving back; sharing the love of Christ and being the very hands and feet of Jesus in a very physical way is a pleasing fragrance to our Lord. Know that all your hard work is fulfilling the work of Christ here on earth and that every bead of sweat and each tear is recorded for eternity. Keep on taking pics and updating us. Press on for the next few days, keep healthy and rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice :)
